The Cowboys are heavy underdogs in their season opener.

The Dallas Cowboys have had a solid offseason. They approached free agency with a little more urgency than before and signed a higher number of players than usual, although most were bargain-bin purchases. They stuck to their board in the draft and came away with quality players, a draft class that has been praised by the media. They also dipped into the trade pool, most notably acquiring George Pickens.

It might not be quite ‘all-in’, but it does fit the definition of ‘selectively aggressive’. Overall, Cowboys fans should be pleased with the efforts made so far to rebound from the dire 7-10 season of last year. They also made the switch to Brian Schottenheimer, who might have been somewhat of a fallback candidate, but he has recruited a strong coaching staff and is trying to instill a new culture.

All of that has bred some optimism among the Cowboys fanbase. But that only goes so far, because when the oddsmakers take a look at the Cowboys, they are unconvinced at this point, and rightfully so.
