OXNARD, Calif. -- Mike Martz was on vacation at his home in Idaho a few weeks ago when the phone rang.
It was Jason Garrett. The Cowboys head coach wanted to know if the architect of the Greatest Show on Turf could drop by the team's training camp for a few days.
The former offensive coordinator and head coach of St. Louis didn't hesitate.
"I've been a Dallas Cowboys fan my whole life,'' Martz said after watching a morning walkthrough. "I grew up with Tom Landry. When Jason called and wanted to know if I could spend a couple of days I was just thrilled.
"It's like I got a free pass to Disneyland.''
Martz downplays his presence. The coach essential to the Rams' Super Bowl title 20 years ago maintains there's nothing he can tell this staff from an Xs and Os standpoint that it doesn't already know. It's not so much what you do, but how well you do it and your attention to detail.
