Emmitt Smith is cemented as a Hall of Fame running back and one of the greatest Dallas Cowboys of all-time. His son, E.J. Smith, is a running back at Jesuit finishing his sophomore season and garnering plenty of interest around the country.
The younger Smith holds offers from Ohio State, Texas A&M, SMU and Georgia, among other schools. He finished his sophomore campaign with 1,277 yards and 26 touchdowns on 197 carries while also proving to be a threat in the passing game.
Emmitt talked about his son's outstanding work ethic and what it's like to see him excel in an area where he himself dominated for so long.
"I'm happy for him," Smith said. "He understands the light that's on him. He wants to do well, he wants to perform well, he's willing to work extra hard. He's doing all of those things.
"He's trying to move into that leadership role on his team and allow his performance to speak volumes for him. I'm proud of him."
As far as E.J. dealing with people who compare him to his Hall of Fame father, Emmitt says that would be a mistake.
