Method to the madness
From SportsDay's Kate Hairopoulos: "The Cowboys are open about their strategy and where free-agency splurges rank -- way down the line.
"They want to draft well, with vice president of player personnel Will McClay leading the way. Then, when it's time, they'll pay to keep their best players. That's what they're doing with defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, who had a very good week indeed. The Cowboys will fork over $17.1 million this season under the franchise tag to keep him from reaching the open market, with hope of reaching a long-term deal by the July deadline.
