A draft strategy that might make sense for the Cowboys in 2018

Jon Machota, Cowboys beat writer for SportsDayDFW.com and The Dallas Morning News, answered questions about the team during a live chat Friday. Here are some highlights.

Other than Dez, which Cowboys might have their contracts restructured in the offseason?

Jon Machota: There's a difference between a restructure and a pay cut. In a restructure, that player still gets all of their money eventually. Dez could be facing a pay cut. Tyron Smith and Travis Frederick are the contracts that could potentially be restructured.

Who should the Cowboys take at 19 in the draft?

Jon Machota: I don't think Georgia LB Roquan Smith or Florida State safety Derwin James will fall that far, but if they did they'd be great picks. I would not draft a wide receiver in the first round. The Cowboys have shown that they don't like drafting defensive tackles in Round 1. So that eliminates quite a few names right there. I would avoid any trades and stay at 19, taking the best pass rusher, defensive back or linebacker that falls to me.
