With Jon Gruden officially out of ESPN's "Monday Night Football" booth in favor of the Oakland Raiders' sideline, there doesn't appear any clear-cut favorite to succeed him.
Peyton Manning would be the splashiest hire but he has shown little inclination to be tied to a booth. There could be a Tony Romo-like surprise candidate in the works. Would Jason Witten fit the bill should ESPN go the Cowboys route?
Matt Hasselbeck, already part of ESPN's studio ensemble, would be a solid if not quite sexy pick. How about another ensemble member? Lewis Riddick. Then, of course, there are candidates with New York ties, which never hurts. That would be ex-Jets coach Rex Ryan and one-time Giants backup quarterback Jesse Palmer.
