5 Cowboys to watch in tonight's preseason game against Rams

OXNARD, Calif. -- Throughout this week of training camp practices, several Cowboys offensive starters talked about making their preseason debut Saturday against the Los Angeles Rams.

So much for that.

Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott, Tyron Smith, Travis Frederick and Zack Martin aren't expected to play.

So who is left to keep an eye on?

Here are five Cowboys to watch when they take the field at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

1.) Rico Gathers. The second-year tight end was impressive as a pass-catcher in the Hall of Fame game, hauling in three passes for 59 yards and a touchdown. His size and athleticism is a mismatch for most linebackers and safeties. If he gets one on one coverage in the redzone, he showed what he can do with the 26-yard TD from Kellen Moore. Gathers has been getting more work with the first-team during the seven-on-seven red zone portion of practice. He still has a ways to go, but the Cowboys are thrilled about his upside.
