At the time, late-November 1985, the historical significance received little notice. In fact, there is barely reference of the happenstance some 24 years later. Still, when the colorful Oail Andrew "Bum" Phillips resigned as head coach of the New Orleans Saints on Nov. 25, 1985 and his son, Wade, was named interim coach, they became the first father and son in NFL history to each serve as head coaches.
